Overview

The Alterra, featured in the 2010 Showcase of Green Homes show in the River Disctrict Development, was drafted in-house by George White, and is tailored to each homeowner’s needs.   The plan is configurable from 3-5 bedrooms and can include a large covered deck and double-deep garage which is great for bikes and storage.  All versions include a complete master suite with double vanities, generous walk-in closet, and tile bathroom floors and shower.  The kitchen features a walk-in pantry, all-wood cabinetry and stainless appliances.  The elevated main floor offers great views of MicaPeak, Mt.Spokane, and the neighborhood park.

Site and Water Protection

The garage is positioned to the west side to eliminate summer heat gain into the home.  Also, to minimize water waste the outside sprinkler system has a rain sensor and the indoor faucets and showerheads are low flow.

Energy Efficiency

BuiltGreen® features include super-insulated walls filled with soy based spray foam and 5”-12” of blown-in-place recycled fiberglass.  The R-50 attic insulation, heat pump, and ultra efficient gas furnace help reduce energy costs to a minimum.  Premium Tyvek house wrap and Low-E high efficiency windows wrap up the exterior of this air-tight and ultra efficient plan.

Indoor Air Quality

Inside, the home is healthy from the day you move in due to ultra low and no VOC finishes and the lack of traditional carpeting and pad.  The Hickory and plywood cabinets feature formaldehyde free construction finished with water a based stain and clear coat.  The interior wall paint contains No VOC’s and the primer and trim paint are both water based ultra-low VOC products. 

Material Use

Throughout the construction process a strict recycling plan was followed.  Also, all flooring consists of tile, bamboo, and stained recycled content concrete.  All cabinetry is topped with Zodiaq fused quartz countertops, with the bathrooms and laundry featuring 25% recycled content.
