Overview

The Jade, featured in the 2010 Showcase of Green Homes show in Liberty Lake, inspires green living by combining modern lines, open spaces, natural light and a high level of environmental awareness.  The floor plan is a single story three bedroom two bath with multi-functional rooms.  The dining area sits between the bamboo kitchen and living area and a built in office is across from the kitchen island.  Bedrooms two and three also contain office space.  Also, the home was featured in the Showcase of Green Homes show in June.

Site and Water Protection

The house is set just due south to collect the best solar gain.  Its east and west axis captures the indirect daylight and shields harsher afternoon sun.

Energy Efficiency

Energy Star Certified.  The exterior walls are constructed with Insulated Concrete Forms and an acrylic stucco finish making them a mere twelve inches. Triple pane windows with a u-value of 22 and in floor hydronic heat will insure energy efficiency.  The home is designed to make the best use of natural light with block windows placed under the kitchen cabinets and sun light tubes. Task lighting is strategically placed with LED and fluorescent fixtures and an electric car outlet.  Combining all of these elements with a 2 Kilowatt array of solar panels you not only have savings but comfort.

Indoor Air Quality

Special attention was paid to indoor air quality.  This is the first home in Spokane to be inspected by the Northwest Energy Star Indoor Air Plus® program.  All of the building materials and finishes are low or no formaldehyde and volatile organic compounds. The floor is concrete with a latex finish and there is no carpet in the home.  A Heat Recovery Ventilator provides clean air into the house by extracting outdoor air, filtering it and then capturing heat from the stale air as it exits.  This type of ventilation of helps control indoor pollutants and promotes better respiratory health.

Material Use

A strict recycling program was following during construction of the home.  Also, finishes in the home were made from sustainable materials.  Counter tops are recycled quartz which requires no sealing or maintenance.  The cabinets were made from a renewable bamboo material.
